//-->Rust Cruiser. The art of scrap yard.During my trips into Omani interior,I have often encountered old carsin extremely bad conditions, but, surprisingly,  still working. Vast majorityof them are Toyota Land Cruisers usuallyfrom the 40 or 70 series. It is unbelievablehow long and in how harsh climate thesecars are used by the local Bedouin onthe deserts or by the fishermen in smallvillages scattered along the shore of theIndian Ocean. In every small settlement far away from the urban civilizationthere are small wooden shelters wheremechanics, mostly from India, Pakistanand Bangladesh, repair these completelyworn out vehicles in impromptuworkshops.Despite their poor condition, these over20 years old vehicles, still run on the localroads and sandy tracks. Reliability of theLand Cruisers is legendary. Resistanceto the hot climate, salt water, impropermaintenance is the best proof of thesuperior quality of the cars and respect oftheir owners. A Land Cruiser is not justa car. It is a part of the culture andimportant element of the localenvironment and landscape. The Land Cruiser also influenced thehistory of the Middle East. In 1987 duringthe war between Libya and neighbouringChad, the Land Cruiser pick ups had acrucial  influence on the course of eventsand helped Chad to win theconflictwith much better equipped andoil-rich Libya. Today the conflict is knownas the  “Toyota War”. In the most part ofthe Middle East and Africa somewheredeeply in the interior where the roads arein a very bad condition or inexistantLandCruisers help people to pursue allessential activities, and often savetheir lives. The idea of this book  first time came tome in September 2011 when Pawel andI had been on the way back from theEmpty Quarter and visited many ofsmall workshops where we saw the oldcars.  Most of the photographs in thispublication were taken between endof 2011 and summer 2013. In this periodI visited several dozen locationsincluding scrap yards or even carscemeteries. I travel all over Omanin my Toyota Land Cruiser.Jerzy WierzbickiTeam DiscoverOmanOmanOmanOman [ Pobierz całość w formacie PDF ]
