Mr. Fifer –
I recently was lucky enough to participate in a ten-day hunt for moose and caribou in the wilds of Alaska.
I carried a bolt-action rifle from one of your competitors (which the competitor touts as weather-resistant,
by the way) and, for bear protection, a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan chambered in .454 Casull.
Despite my best efforts, foul weather kept both firearms wet for nearly the entire trip. The Ruger functioned
perfectly the whole time. By day three of the hunt, however, the competitor’s rifle showed rust staining and
discoloration on the bolt, trigger guard and trigger. Eventually, the sliding safety rusted internally and could
not be moved by hand. Daily, liberal applications of gun oil and cycling the rifle’s safety with a screwdriver
were required to keep the safety functioning.
When I returned home, I stripped both firearms down for a thorough cleaning.
Your competitor’s rifle showed extensive rust on internal components
and the bolt. It took days with a mototool to polish the rust off the
rifle. The Ruger, on the other hand, only required some “gun
scrubber” to remove the water and a light oiling.

My conclusion? Ruger produces a superior weather-resistant product.
The quality components and finish of my Super Redhawk Alaskan
were more than a match for the Alaskan climate. Unfortunately,
I can’t say the same for your competitor’s
rifle. Keep up the good work!
